LANCET HOOP HOUSE

In collaboration with: Yoonseo Choi, Jamie Ho, Harshvardhan Kedia, & Ryan Smith.

Using mainly steel conduit and greenhouse plastic as the materials, we focused on developing a strong, air-tight design that can protect plants and extend the growing season during the Pittsburgh winter. By using three layers of plastic, it ensured the structure is air-tight and allowed for snapping of the buttons without the use of a support on the backside. Our design also focused on simplicity of the module to fit within the 10’ conduit limit, the shifted and alternating peaks to generate an organic roof curvature and two sides held stable with the use of minimal cross-bracing. Addition materials used included grommets, snaps and hose clamps, all of which were included in a budget of $125.

I was specifically in charge of creating and developing the construction drawing set and documenting our progress. All together, we worked together on designing, prototyping, and building the final hoop house.
